Grandparents & Special Friends (Grandfriends)

Duke School Grandfriends are very important to our community. Much of our success would not be possible without your support.

We are excited to announce a new term of endearment for our beloved grandparents and special friends: Grandfriends. This term beautifully encapsulates the unique bond and cherished relationships we share with those who have enriched our student’s lives with wisdom, love, and joy. A Grandfriend is a cherished individual who may be a grandparent, an honorary grandparent, or a special friend who has played a significant role in our student’s lives

Grandfriends Day is a very special event at Duke School. Grandfriends are honored by their grandchildren, faculty, and staff with a morning program of music, a concert, classroom visits, breakout sessions, an Art Expo, and lunch. We are excited to invite all Duke School Grandfriends to this special event on Friday, May 2nd, 2025 (details to come). 

Save the Date: Grandfriends Hot Cocoa Event, Friday, December 13th, 2024 (Virtual). Join the Duke School Development Team on National Hot Cocoa Day, for our virtual Grandfriends Hot Cocoa. Enjoy connecting with other Duke School grandfriends and hearing about some of the exciting things happening on campus. Invitations will be sent to all grandfriends on the mailing list. As we are aware that all grandfriends will not be able to join us at Duke School, you are always welcome, especially on our Grandfriends Day! In the meantime, we encourage grandfriends to visit the classrooms, culminations, school events, and be a part of your grandchild(ren)'s education. Every year, Grandfriends receive several publications and event announcements from Duke School, electronic mailers of Under the Oak magazine, and Grandfriends Day invitations.
