Duke School Educators Institute: Duke School's bi-annual Educators Institutes bring educators from across the world to Duke School for onsite project work, curriculum training and exploration. We welcome preschool, elementary and middle school teachers, curriculum specialists, team leaders and school administrators. Preparing Problem Solvers & Innovators - An Intro to Project Work

November 8-9, 2018 | 8:30 AM - 4 PM
Institute Divisions: Preschool, Lower School, Middle School 

Duke School has developed a curriculum for project work that allows students to conduct in-depth investigations of important topics while developing the fundamental skills and strategies they will need as 21st century learners.

Institute Goals:
  • Develop an awareness of why project work is important
  • Understand the structure of project work
  • Learn how project work compliments and extends content area standards
  • Use tools to develop, manage and assess a project designed for your classroom
During the institute, participants will:
  • Observe classrooms to see teachers and students in action
  • Work with institute leaders to plan their own project
Cost:
  • Register online by October 10, 2018 for $300 per person
  • Discounts available for students and groups of 2+

Resources provided will be for children three-years-old through eighth grade only. Kindergarten and fifth grade are transitional years which can be placed in multiple divisions. When registering, please choose the institute division (Preschool, Lower School/Elementary, or Middle School) that best meets the needs of your school.

Participants will earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Seminars in Project Work - Deeper Dive Institute

 March 28-29, 2019 | 8:30 AM - 4 PM
Institute Divisions: Preschool, Lower School, Middle School 

Participants will attend a variety of engaging sessions designed to allow a more comprehensive exploration of interest areas in project work.
 
Attendees choose from seminars that include topics such as:
  • Finding Math in Project Work
  • Mini Inquiries
  • Developing Essential Questions
  • Creating with Technology
  • Making the Most of Guest Experts
  • Observational Drawing
  • Centering your Projects with Learning Centers
  • Webbing & Questions
  • Documenting Student Work
During the institute, participants will:
  • Observe project work in classrooms 
  • Have Q&A sessions with Duke School faculty and students
Cost:
  • Register online by February 28, 2019 for $300 per person
