A $1,000,000 Gift will Endow the Scholarship for Equity in Education at Duke School

Since its establishment in 1947, Duke School has held the belief that all children deserve a place to learn where they are seen, valued, celebrated, and accepted for who they are and the unique value they bring to the community. This is central to our school's mission and underscores our strategic focus on diversity, equity, justice, and belonging.

Duke School is thrilled to announce that a family, who wishes to remain anonymous at this time, has pledged a $1,000,000 gift to the school.

This generous gift has been made to advance Duke School’s mission as an inclusive community intentionally rich with diversity—a vision about which the donors are passionate. The gift will endow the school’s Scholarship for Equity in Education (SEE Program), which launched in the Spring of 2022. The SEE Program offers scholarships to new students from historically underrepresented groups, helping to offset tuition costs, support leadership-mentor programs for recipients, and enrich the learning environment at Duke School.  This is the largest single gift in the school's history and the first endowed educational program in Duke School’s 75-year history. The donors hope this gift will inspire the Duke School community to support the school’s culture of philanthropy and initiatives that advance its vision.

Head of School Lisa Nagel shared, “This gift is transformational and will resonate throughout our school now and touch all our students' lives for generations to come. I am incredibly grateful for this example of confidence of our donors. This remarkable gift underscores our bold strategic vision to foster a diverse community of belonging where each voice matters.”
