Parent School Organization (PSO)

Parents are the backbone of Duke School, serving our community in countless ways and ensuring bright futures for our children. The Parent School Organization (PSO) welcomes your comments, encourages you to contact them, and looks forward to working with you.

Each family is asked to help with the planning and execution of one all-school event each year. Volunteer opportunities range from one to two hours on the day of an event to larger planning and organizing roles. Many committees have work that can be done from home and/or on weekends. Duke School's Diversity parent group is called the L.I.F.E. Committee: Learning, Inclusion, Family, Equity & Empowerment. The L.I.F.E. Committee hosts special conversations throughout the year and community engagements. Please consider how your family can help with these popular events.

2019-20 PSO Committees

List of 7 items.

  • Consumer Rewards

This committee works to promote and collect Box Tops and Linkage Programs for the school to be used to fund PSO activities and events.
  • Dragon Dash 5K Walk/Run

A community building and fundraising event held in the fall on campus. We need volunteers as race timers, registration table workers, clean-up crew, and people to seek donations for snacks (e.g bagels, bananas, etc.).
  • End of Year Party

Volunteers coordinate food, set up, and clean up at this all-school event to celebrate the ending school year and to welcome the summer. Barbecue is catered, and families bring pot-luck side dishes and desserts.
  • Fall Festival

This committee coordinates with Duke School’s Facilities team to organize the Fall Festival.  Each class is responsible for a booth or activity, and as always, we need many volunteers to make it happen!
  • L.I.F.E. Committee

L.I.F.E.: Learning. Inclusion. Family. Equity & Empowerment. Members serve as ambassadors, advocates, and learners to ensure a culturally competent and inclusive Duke School community.
  • Spring Event

Each spring parents come together to plan an adult-only event for the community.
  • Teacher & Staff Appreciation Committee

This active committee is responsible for implementing various events throughout the year for all of our wonderful teachers and staff. These events give you an opportunity to make a direct impact on Teacher Appreciation at our school. Events may include coordinating conference day food, hot soups for lunch in January, potluck luncheon in the spring.
Duke School's success is largely due to the extraordinary parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends who volunteer to support events and programs throughout the school. Volunteering, in addition to providing enormous benefits to Duke School, also provides parents with opportunities to be involved in the Duke School community, meet other parents, and get to know the school in new ways.

Together we can create fun, meaningful and memorable experiences for our whole community!
